CREUP celebrates progress made in the reduction of economic barriers at Spanish Universities

The Coordinator of Representatives of Students of Public Universities (CREUP) welcomes the news coming from different Spanish autonomous communities (Andalusia, La Rioja and the Canary Islands) which represent a further step in reducing economic barriers in access and maintenance of Students college life.
This organisation wishes to express its satisfaction with the 5th announcement made by the Andalusian Government to subsidize 99% of the cost of tuition fees to students (without MECD scholarship), depending on their academic results. This measure, which is estimated at a cost of around 2% of the total budget of Andalusian universities, can benefit around 30,000 university students.
Andalusia thus joins autonomous communities such as La Rioja, which proposes a homologation of public prices, or the Canary Islands, which a few months ago announced a decline in university rates of 8% in bachelor degrees and up to 15% in master degrees, in their desires and efforts to progress in achieving a shared objective with CREUP: the elimination of economic barriers in the Spanish Public University system, which guarantees the effective equality of all students, regardless of their socioeconomic level.
CREUP strongly encourages the rest of autonomous communities to listen to the demands of student representatives in this direction and invites other autonomous governments to follow the example of these regional governments.
