29 srp ACT Updates — Starting September 2025
If you’re planning to take the ACT outside the U.S., there are important changes coming starting September 2025.
What’s Changing?
- The Enhanced ACT Is Coming
From September 2025, the “Enhanced ACT” version that U.S. students began taking online in April 2025 will also be available to all international test-takers — including you! This means a more streamlined and digital-friendly testing experience.
- A Shorter, Smarter Test
Here’s what to expect from the core sections:
- Fewer questions overall — the core sections are trimmed by 44 questions.
- Total core test time reduced from about 195 minutes to just 125 minutes (2 hours 5 minutes), giving you more time per question.
- The sections are rebalanced as follows:
- English: 50 questions in 35 minutes
- Math: 45 questions in 50 minutes (no more 5-choice questions!)
- Reading: 36 questions in 40 minutes
- Science Is Optional
- Science is now optional, just like Writing.
- Your Composite Score will be calculated from English, Math, and Reading only.
- You can still choose to take Science (40 questions, 40 minutes) if required by your chosen STEM programs or schools.
- Superscoring Changes
- From April 2025 (U.S.) and September 2025 (internationally), your Superscore will be based only on English, Math, and Reading — Science will be excluded.
- The test remains linear (non-adaptive) and digital — just as you have experienced.
How Long Will Your Test Take?
| Test Version | Sections Included | Approximate Time |
| Core Only | English + Math + Reading | 125 minutes (2h 5m) |
| Core + Writing | English + Math + Reading + Writing | 155 minutes (2h 35m) |
| Core + Science | English + Math + Reading + Science | 165 minutes (2h 45m) |
| Core + Science + Writing | English + Math + Reading + Science + Writing | 195 minutes (3h 15m) |
How to Prepare
- Practice with the new digital test format using ACT’s official practice resources.
- Choose optional sections wisely — add Science only if your schools require it; Writing is optional.
- Focus on scoring high in English, Math, and Reading — these sections count the most.
- Check fees carefully — core tests may cost less, but adding Science or Writing could increase the price.
Bottom Line
Starting September 2025, the ACT will be shorter, smarter, and fully digital — designed to give you a better testing experience. You’ll have the option to add Science and Writing, but your core score will focus on the key subjects. This is your chance to prepare smarter and perform your best.
